We received a LOT of gorgeous china for our wedding and have never used it. It’s been sitting in our cabinet for 7 years collecting dust. We don’t host sit down dinners (our dining room is currently half playroom, half office) and I never want to “hurt” the china, so it just sits there waiting for the right time to use it.
I decided to pull it out when I was working from home last week. I made a smoothie and drank it right out of my beautiful Lenox china coffee cup. And, it tasted amazing.
The good china is a lot like everything else in life. We are constantly saving the good stuff for later. But, why?
So often, we say we will do something later or when it’s the right time. I’m extremely guilty of it.
- “I’m saving that bottle of wine for a special occasion.”
- “I only pull out those shoes when I’m going some place special — they were too expensive and nice to wear on a regular day.”
- “I’ll start eating healthy and working out later. Right now isn’t a good time for it.”
- “I’ve always wanted to XYZ, but it’s not the right time.”
Last night, my husband made me lobster tail, just because. Just because I love it. He didn’t save it for Valentine’s Day or a special occasion. He just made me a special dinner. But looking back on it now, I realize, it was the perfect time. I want to start living my life like that — drinking from the good china and eating lobster tail on Superbowl Sunday.
