You’ve heard of keeping up with the Jones? Well, moms have a constant struggle to keep up with the Jones of the mommy world, and Pinterest has been no help at all.
Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, and my fellow (working) mom friend has been texting me all day asking what I’m doing for the daycare teachers for Valentine’s Day. To which I answered, “Umm, we are supposed to do something?” And, “Isn’t that why Pinterest was created?”
Since no one wants to be “that” mom (except me, apparently), my friend had spent hours searching for creative gift ideas. She then made an adorable gift for each of the three daycare teachers. (Our kids are 3, by the way.) I was impressed. They looked awesome. Then, I got a text about how creative and personalized the homemade gifts she found were. Goals for next year.
But, why??
I mean, don’t get me wrong, the presents she made look great and I’m very proud of her, but why can’t that be enough? Why do all of us feel like we have to keep up with the other, ridiculously creative moms (that apparently have plenty of time to do crafts)?
Moms today have so much pressure. So much pressure to keep up. So much pressure to not only work and be a good mom and be a good wife, but we also feel like we have to be a perfect “Pinterest mom”. I feel the same pressure, and it’s not fair. We should be proud of what we are doing (keeping our kids alive). So, as much as I want to fit in with the awesome Pinterest moms, I have to admit, I really am more of a Bad Mom.
What I really want to say is this:
To all of the (bad – and good) moms out there, you’re doing awesome. You are amazing. Your kids love you. Keep up the good work 🙂 ❤
