Quiet

Do you ever just want a mute button for your life? To just turn off the sound and have a minute to regroup?

Things have been *nuts* lately.

We have had house guests for weeks, my kids have had school changes, work has been crazy (although, it’s almost as if my escape is my time in the office), there have been holidays and birthdays (little dude turned one last week!) and I’m constantly trying to play catch up with schedules and everything else.

Today, I was at work listening to music to get me motivated to get some stuff done when I realized that I just needed quiet, so I took off my headphones and sat for a minute embracing the sound of absolutely nothing (other than the AC-hurricane that blows on my desk). I also thanked my lucky stars that I have a generally quiet team.

Sometimes we get so caught up in the day-to-day that we forget to take a minute and be still and quiet. We forget to just *be* for a minute.

Even the bible tries to tell us that we need to slow down. Psalm 46:10 literally tells is to Be Still. I have to constantly tell myself to listen to that commandment. In our society today, we overbook ourselves and find discomfort in the quiet. We seek out chaos like it’s a drug and we brag about how busy our schedules are. I fall victim to this just like everyone else.

When are we going to allow ourselves to enjoy the peace and quiet? To stop looking for stimulation all the time and, instead, embrace the stillness? When are we going to turn off the music or the tv or our phones and allow ourselves to disconnect for a minute? Maybe we are scared of what we may discover about ourselves when we do. But, who knows, we may love ourselves even more if we allow time to just Be Still and Know.
